Synopsis |
Mood Hall—the enigmatic game played amongst the survivors in the post-apocalyptic world. The strange space in which the game is played is also known by the same name. Mysterious middle-aged and older gentlemen and beautiful women, giants, and little people appear and disappear in various places. What is Mood Hall? “Overture: Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Five Flukers in the Fluke Pit,” “Homo Ludens,” “Multiplication 1,” “Rooms,” “Mood Hall St.,” “Multiplication 2,” and “Blue Skies from Pain”—a high-density labyrinthine world consisting of eight experimental, artistic, and adventurous sketches, half sci-fi and half mystery.

Statement |
Prince famously said, “Albums… Remember those? Albums still matter. Like books and black lives, albums still matter. Tonight and always,” in his speech as a presenter at the 2015 Grammy Awards ceremony. In a slight departure from the intentions of the original message, albums, which were born in the twentieth century, still matter today as a form of time-based art that is ideal for both artists and audiences. The time-based world of the LP record, uniquely consisting of thirty to forty-six minutes, is still a very suggestive means of enjoying time-based art, even in the midst of the rapid acceleration of the changing times in 2019. It is characterized above all by the world created by focusing on continuous streams of multiple images and interweaving your own knowledge, memories, and interpretations; by that blissful moment when it feels as though the artist’s message is meant for you and you only; and by the total immersion in the world born from the resonance between the sound we listen to while gazing at the album cover and the audience’s imagination. How can the album format in music be translated into film? We have been working on this question for quite some time now, and it has finally taken shape as Mood Hall. A work that can be called an album was born.
